Abstract

In Argentina, many important politicians and intellectuals, aided by important developments in the editorial market, contributed during the 19th and the 20th centuries to the study and the circulation of Italian language and literature.  The institutionalized study of Italian started in 1896 with the first Italian course in the Dante Alighieri institute in Buenos Aires.  At university level, the first Italian Literature course was taught at Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1898.  The creation of ADILLI (Spanish for Association of Italian Language and Literature Scholars) constitutes an important landmark.  This association organizes yearly scholarly exchanges, summons meetings and publishes research results.  This paper attempts to commemorate these first 40 years in the history of ADILLI and reflect about its possible future.
